Gumbo Limbo Nature Center

You may have heard of Gumbo Limbo Environmental Complex, otherwise known as the Gumbo Limbo Nature Center. This nature preserve is managed by the city of Boca Raton in partnership with Friends of Gumbo Limbo and the Greater Boca Raton Beach and Park District. Located at 1801 N. Ocean Blvd., Boca Raton, Florida, the center is an excellent place to spend a day.

Things To Do

Located on 20 acres of barrier island, Gumbo Limbo Nature Center is a shining beacon for environmental education and research. You can learn about endangered and rare species from the center's educational programs and see the animals up close in the aquariums and nests. For those interested in sea turtles, there is a rehabilitation center as well. The center is closed on Mondays, but you can still visit on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays.

As part of its conservation efforts, Gumbo Limbo offers visitors a chance to explore the marine world in three distinct habitats: shallow, nearshore, and deep. The shallow habitats replicate the coastal mangrove community, while the deeper tanks feature tropical coral and artificial reefs. All aquariums are covered for your protection and enjoyment. There is even an inclined elevator so you can take in the sights and sounds of nature from the top of the tower.

Amenities

The Gumbo Limbo Nature Center is a 20-acre oasis that offers plenty of things to see and do for kids and adults. The center features a carousel, horse tree and sea turtle rehabilitation facilities. There are also nature trails and educational displays featuring live animals. There are four outdoor aquariums for visitors to enjoy, including an artificial reef/shipwreck that contains sharks and half of a broken-up ship.

In addition to the many things to do, the Gumbo Limbo Nature Center offers a virtual tour of its attractions, which makes it the perfect place to spend an afternoon. In addition to the nature center's boardwalk through the Coastal Hammock Forest, it offers virtual tours of its attractions. The center also has an online store, so visitors can purchase supplies and souvenirs without leaving the grounds.
